Vernon Building Society’s annual Community Awards open for applications

Previous winner of a Vernon Community Award, Mentell, offers mental health support to men

Vernon Building Society’s annual Community Awards are open for applications to local Stockport not-for-profit groups.

Over eight years the local building society has donated over £80,000 to worthy causes throughout the local community.

Previous winners include Mentell (pictured), Smart Works and Stockport LGBT+ Youth.
This year the Vernon is again offering £10,000 to local not-for-profit organisations that are dedicated to supporting the local Stockport community.

Applications are open from1st July until 14th August.


Once applications have been received, 14 organisations will be shortlisted as finalists in the Community Awards. Finalists will be awarded a minimum of £200 to a maximum of £1,500.

A spokesperson for Stockport Sharks Swimming Club, which was previously a beneficiary, said: “The Vernon really put themselves at the heart of the community. The financial assistance and wider publicity that Stockport Sharks have received has made a real difference to the service we can provide.”

To be eligible Organisations must be based in, or benefit, the postcode areas SK1, SK2, SK3, SK4, SK5, SK6, SK7, SK8 or SK12. Applications supporting individuals or individual sponsorships, political activities, promotion of religious causes, activities that benefit animals or commercial enterprises won’t be considered. Organisations can apply online via the Vernon Building Society website.
