Wistaston Allotment welcomes Bellway delivery

The community at Wistaston Allotment, on Wistaston Green Road, recently welcomed the delivery of an unused sales cabin from local housebuilder Bellway.

With limited funding, the community of 40 members was actively searching for a suitable cabin for the allotment, in which they could hold monthly meetings, fundraising discussions and wider community events, such as open days. It would also serve useful as a place to socialise as well as host competitions, including Best Plot plus the Flower & Vegetable Show.

The community also hopes to invite Special Needs Children from the locality to the allotment every month to experience gardening therapy, so sourcing a permanent cabin with the necessary facilities was high on the priority list.

After contacting Bellway, who are currently building three and four bedroom homes at Kingfisher Reach, on the same road as the allotment, the community was thrilled to receive confirmation of an unused sales cabin from the housebuilder.

Delivery was made safely and the only immediate modification required was a connection to the water supply. Electric and a working toilet will follow. Already dressed with a desk and chair, notice board and additional seating, the community is ready to unveil the new cabin and make good use of it when allowed.

Geoff Bolt, manager of Wistaston Allotment, comments: “Having been manager for the last 12 months, I have a vision for the future progress of our allotment community. The donation of the sales cabin from Bellway is hugely helpful and we are very grateful. It enables us to achieve our ambitions as the sales cabin is the foundation stone for our future plans.

“We have already established a relationship with Wistaston Parish Council, and as partners, together we will promote and provide events for the wider community and local residents. We are also hoping that Special Needs Schools in the region can make use of the facilities too, in addition to the work we want to do with local children.”

Jenny Bell, sales director at Bellway North West, adds: “When Geoff contacted us, we were keen to help. The dedication he gives to the allotment and wider community is inspiring and by donating the sales cabin, we are delighted to help Geoff achieve his goals, both enhancing the allotment and giving something back to Wistaston residents.”

Highly sought-after, there is currently a selection of homes available at Kingfisher Reach, with more releases in the coming months.
