Women in Property announces new North West Chairman

Women in Property has announced its new North West Chairman for 2018/19.

Chithra Marsh, Associate Director at Buttress, takes on the role from 1st March, for one year.

Chithra, who has been a member of Women in Property for five years, is a qualified architect with over 20 years’ post graduate experience in commercial practice. During her career, she has worked on a broad range of projects in both the private and public sectors.

In early 2018, she joined Buttress, where in addition to delivering her own projects, she is responsible for developing and implementing the practice’s business development strategy.

She said, “This year marks 100 years since women were given the right to vote. It is also the year in which Manchester has been named one of seven Centenary Cities, selected for its strong link to the suffragette movement. Against this backdrop, it is a privilege to take up the position as North West Chairman for 2018.

“While we continue to make great progress in correcting the gender imbalance in the property and construction industry, challenges relating to diversity and inclusivity in the workforce still need to be overcome.

“The North West committee is made up of women from a range of disciplines, backgrounds and ethnicities, and I look forward to working with them to deliver a programme of events that champion diversity in the broadest sense of the word, helping us move towards a truly inclusive working culture.”

Gavin Sorby, managing director at Buttress, added, “We are proud to support Chithra as she takes up the role as Chairman. Having been an active and dedicated member of Women in Property for a number of years, she is well placed to drive the North West branch forward, and we welcome the positive impact she will make over the forthcoming year.”

In the North West area, Women in Property offers a broad range of networking, CPD and mentoring events, the majority of which are open to men and women.
