York-based Incremental Solutions, a leading technology provider of smart transport systems, has been honoured with a Queen’s Award for Enterprise.

Announced on Tuesday 23rd April, Incremental Solutions has been acknowledged for its excellence in the field of Innovation, and are one of just 200 organisations nationally to be recognised with a Queen’s Award for Enterprise, with 13 of these coming from the Yorkshire region.

Now in its 53rd year, the Queen’s Award for Enterprise are the most prestigious business awards in the country, and are for outstanding achievement by UK businesses in the categories of innovation, international trade, sustainable development and promoting opportunity through social mobility. Winning businesses are able to use the esteemed Queen’s Award emblem for a period of five years.

Incremental was set up in 2014 and combines a team bringing significant experiences from commercial software, engineering, business management and transport network industries. Working with companies such as Network Rail, LNER, Northern, Transpennine Express and Grand Central, Incremental provides Global Positioning System (GPS) data visualisation and analysis software which generates detailed performance insight for transport operators – enabling them to improve and optimise their efficiency. This is particularly beneficial in the areas of timetable verification and incident management for example.

More recently, Incremental announced they have been working with Network Rail and GWR on a prototype pantograph monitoring system. The O.L.E. project employs algorithms, created by Oxford University academics, that use optical recognition to measure the movement of the pantograph on top of each train. The system will identify emerging problems with the aim of minimising delays to passengers and supporting continuing efforts to further improve rail services.

Of the award, Daniel Lee-Bursnall, Founder and Commercial Director, said;
“This is great news for Incremental and strengthens our credentials within the transport and technology sectors. This level of recognition is outstanding and full credit must go to the wider Incremental team and our partners for the hard work they do. There’s a real opportunity to improve rail and transport network efficiency and safety with the clever use of technology, and we’re pleased to be helping to influence that change.”

Incremental will celebrate it’s award during a royal reception for Queen’s Award winners in June this year.
