York businesswoman scoops top ice cream appointment

Maggie Rush, a Director of Graham's Ices Ltd

A York businesswoman has been appointed President of The Ice Cream Alliance – the trade body for the UK’s £1bn ice cream industry.

Maggie Rush, a Director of Graham’s Ices Ltd, has worked in the ice cream business for more than 30 years.

Now she will be supporting ice cream businesses across the UK and campaigning to protect the quality of UK ice cream.

“It’s going to be an interesting year as the path towards Brexit unfolds. We will be keeping an eye on potential changes to food regulations and legislation and lobbying Government to ensure regulations are in place that protect the quality and integrity of ice cream,” said Mrs Rush.

Graham’s Ices was founded by her husband in 1974 and now has five ice cream vans providing a mixture of street trading and event services.

Mrs Rush, a former mental health nurse in York, switched career paths in 1985 to work in the family business.

“Ice cream remains as popular as ever and I have been instrumental in opening up new services providing ice cream vans for all kinds of celebrations including corporate events, school fairs, weddings and family gatherings,” she said.

“I thoroughly enjoy working in the ice cream sector and I’m looking forward to meeting with business owners across the UK and flying the flag for the Ice Cream Alliance and promoting great quality ice cream.”
