Yorkshire-based businesses back viral campaign to beat breast cancer

Yorkshire-based businesses are supporting a viral campaign to beat breast cancer which was launched earlier this month.

Entrepreneur and Osteomyologist Emma Kirke, initiated the campaign dubbed #DaretoBare, to raise funds for Cancer Research UK, after having marked the two-year anniversary of her double mastectomy operation.

Emma, who received the diagnosis that she had breast cancer in 2013, is backed by Leeds-based PR agency MacComms, and Swoosch.it, a crowd funding platform for social occasions and charity fundraising based at the Leeds Digital Hub.

The businesses have joined forces to raise awareness of the campaign in support of Cancer Research UK and are encouraging others to help in the fight against breast cancer. The challenge works by taking a topless selfie, covering the breasts or chest with hands and/or creative props and donating funds to a dedicated pot on the Swoosch.it site.

The #DareToBare challenge is complete when individuals donate to the dedicated pot of funds, which is being managed by Swoosch.it, a new crowd funding platform for social occasions and charity fundraising. All funds raised will go to Cancer Research UK, both photos are uploaded to social media and three friends are tagged with the hashtag to continue the campaign.

Emma says:

“When doctors told me I had a lump in my right breast, I decided I wasn’t going to become a victim. I took the decision to have a double mastectomy to prevent going through this again and I want to encourage more women and men to check their breasts so they don’t have to go through what I have, or worse.”

Achille Traore, managing director of Swoosch.it, adds:

“Having only just launched Swoosch last year, we’re delighted that a worthy cause is using the platform to help raise the profile of a high-profile charitable campaign. We want more business men and women, to get behind the campaign and show their support in the fight against cancer.”

To get involved with the campaign follow these five steps:
1. Snap a picture covering your breasts / chest
2. Visit https://swoosch.it/link/dare-to-bare and donate an amount of your choice
3. Upload both pictures to social media (Facebook is best)
4. Use the hashtag #DareToBare
5. Tag in three friends to complete the challenge next
