Yorkshire entrepreneurs commit to growth

Over 70 Yorkshire based entrepreneurs gathered to commit to growth at an event organised by Leeds based chartered accountancy firm Hentons.

The event was organised as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week and sought to give business owners the support they need to continue to grow in an increasingly uncertain economy.

Commenting on the event Nadeem Ahmed, managing partner at Hentons said: “With the budget on Wednesday and uncertainty over Brexit, it is a challenging time for small businesses. The event saw 70 business owners come together to share best practice and pledge to do their bit to keep the economy growing.”

Experts from accountancy firm Hentons talked about the importance of effective tax planning. Lloyds Bank shared its commitment to the growth of SMEs and supporting UK start-ups, having assisted over 63,000 start-ups so far in 2017. And Weightmans discussed the importance of protecting a business with legal services.

Other speakers and exhibitors included Workspace Hub, Business Enterprise Fund, Dynamo Accounts, Dynamic Networks Group, Fruition, Genistar and Uown.

A report from research firm Duedil showed Leeds is outperforming Manchester, Birmingham and Edinburgh as a base for growing businesses. The study indicates that central Leeds has 81 fast-growing companies with a combined turnover of £2.3bn.

The findings examined scale-ups, which are classed as a company which has achieved three years of 20 percent growth in revenues or staff. Westminster topped the survey, followed by Cambridge and Leeds.

Mr Ahmed said: “Hentons has a packed calendar of events aimed at advising and inspiring entrepreneurs in Leeds and across Yorkshire. A business can supercharge its growth with the right support in place.”
