Yorkshire football firm’s record year of growth

A start-up football academy based in Leeds, West Yorkshire has increased revenue by nearly 300% in its third year in business.

Established in 2015, Foot-Tech Academy has reported a record year of growth, having expanded into East Leeds and signed up more than 280 members.

Co-founders, Luke Towning and Nick Bishop started the business after having recognised a demand for creative football training sessions for children in the region.

The firm, which now employs 18 coaches, operates out of two venues in Leeds, including John Smeaton Leisure Centre and Soldier’s Field at Roundhay Park.

The company also works with schools, to improve pupils’ football skills, whilst also supporting them to maintain a healthy and social lifestyle.

For both novice and experienced players, the academy’s curriculum has been devised by long-time coach, Luke and primary teacher, Nick to target young people’s confidence, speed and agility.

Foot-Tech Academy has taught more than 1000 children in Leeds through its weekly group sessions, one-to-one football coaching, holiday camps and after-school clubs.

It now has plans to increase member numbers to more than 500 by the end of 2019, secure three new locations in West Yorkshire and hire an additional eight members of staff.

In 2017, Foot-Tech Academy was successful in securing a place on the UK’s largest free business growth accelerator programme, NatWest Business Accelerator.

Commenting on company growth, co-founder Nick said:

“We’re incredibly pleased by how far we’ve come in the last 12 months; it’s such an exciting time for us as we gear up for our next stage of growth.

“It’s amazing to see the children develop and prosper through our football training programme and so rewarding when parents tell us the huge difference that Foot-Tech has had on their child’s ability, confidence and resilience.

“We have more plans for next year which will add significant value for our customers and our aim is to help as many children as possible increase their physical and mental health by participating in football in an unpressurised, friendly environment. More will be revealed in early 2019.”
