Yorkshire legal firm in national awards shortlisting

A Yorkshire legal firm has received national recognition from judges at the Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year Awards (LALYs) and the British Claims Awards.

Switalskis Solicitors’ chartered legal executive, Caroline Hurst, has been shortlisted in the Social and Welfare award category at the LALYs, and the firm’s personal injury teams – clinical negligence, child abuse, brain injury and serious injury – have been shortlisted as Claimant Law Firm of the Year in the British Claims Awards.

The LALYs celebrate the work of grassroots lawyers who are doing publicly-funded work. Caroline Hurst works in mental capacity and community care law, representing vulnerable adults who may lack mental capacity. The majority of her mixed caseload is legal aid funded, and includes cases involving decisions around residence, care and contact. Caroline represents adults with various cognitive impairments including learning disabilities, dementia and cerebral palsy.

The British Claims Awards celebrate the achievements and progress made by the leading professionals in the claims sector on behalf of their clients. Switalskis’ personal injury team comprises 68 complex injury lawyers and support staff who provide advice and representation to claimants in relation to clinical negligence; brain injury and serious injury; child abuse compensation; adult abuse compensation; inquests; and professional negligence in clinical negligence matters.

Says Michael Kennedy, director and barrister at Switalskis Solicitors: “Caroline is a skilled and compassionate lawyer, who has dedicated her career to helping vulnerable members of society. Our personal injury team is a highly-effective team, well regarded within the profession and among clients. Both would be very worthy winners and we wish them the best of luck with the award decisions.”
