Leeds-based company DigiBete has been announced as a winner at the prestigious QiC Diabetes Quality in Care Programme 2018 Awards, in the ‘Type 1 Specialist Service – Children, Young People and Emerging Adults’ category.
The results were announced at the awards ceremony on 18th October, held at Sanofi Group UK headquarters in Guildford, and is the latest achievement for this ambitious start up business.
DigiBete’s mission is to make type 1 diabetes education more accessible to patients and their families, and help them to self-manage through a wealth of online resources and guidelines on its unique video web platform. These include educational videos and emergency advice for common acute complications, available to parents and healthcare professionals alike.
Judges commended the DigiBete website for gaining unanimous praise from patient representatives and healthcare professionals, providing educational videos that appeal to children, giving quick answers to common questions – but also in-depth explanations for technical areas such as insulin pumps.
They added: “There is real potential for this service to make a difference in helping to raise standards, and produce more consistent guidance across the country.
DigiBete is one of the businesses involved with Elmwood LaunchPod, a unique 12-week accelerator hub that is propelled by the power of design and brings together a mix of entrepreneurial start-ups and scale-ups concerned with the future of consumer health in the Yorkshire area.
