Yorkshire tech scale-up invites Leeds-based businesses to celebrate second birthday

A fast-growing Leeds-based digital design house is gearing up to celebrate its second birthday.

LightStart, which was founded in 2016 by Simon Edwards and Dan Akers, is celebrating its birthday by throwing a ‘MeatUp’ barbecue. The event will take place on Friday 3rd August at The Cross Keys from 4-7pm.

Based in Platform, the company works with businesses for the duration of the digital product lifecycle, from idea to launch, providing services including analysis, business strategy, focus groups, branding and development. LightStart has also gained a reputation for hosting more than 50 events in Leeds each year.

Since forming LightStart two years ago, the firm now has a team of seven employees and additional contractors, and is currently recruiting for four more positions. In just two years, LightStart has worked with a range of businesses from digital start-ups through to £60M turnover businesses. Currently seeking investment, the company has ambitious plans to continue its fast growth.

Following the success of an array of innovative networking events such as the Leeds Digital Coffee Morning, the ‘MeatUp’ will provide informal networking and a free barbecue with vegetarian options, as well as music from co-founder Dan Akers who will be DJing at the event.

Sponsored by Yorkshire-based PR agency, MacComms, the ‘Meatup’ has already received more than 200 sign-ups.

Co-founder of LightStart, Simon Edwards comments:

“We are so pleased with LightStart’s growth and success over the past two years – it is definitely worth celebrating! We can’t think of a better place for the barbecue than The Cross Keys, a fantastic venue with high-quality service and food.

“After such amazing weather this summer, we’re keeping our fingers crossed for some sun and are looking forward to celebrating with key business people of Leeds!”

The event is open to anyone that would like to attend to celebrate the occasion and tickets can be booked via the website: www.lightstart.co.uk/meatup
