Yorkshire Universities Collaborate to Support Business Success

An exciting collaboration between Huddersfield and Bradford University is set to give young businesses across the Leeds City Region access to a flexible and dynamic programme of events that has been specifically designed to unlock growth potential.

Launching on 2 October, Huddersfield Business Pathway will offer places free of charge to eligible pre-start, new and young firms in West Yorkshire and the surrounding districts through AD:VENTURE, an ERDF-funded £12.3m programme that supports aspirational businesses.

Delivered by hand-picked experts, delegates will take part in short, regular sessions and have access to specialist coaching as they explore a full selection of topics that cover business and personal growth.

Focusing on subjects that are particularly relevant to new business, eight planned sessions include Developing your brand, Building business relationships, Practical sales techniques, Taking the stress out of getting paid, What makes a successful entrepreneur, The fundamentals of finance, Marketing for growth and Digital know-how.

Jill Johnes, Dean of Huddersfield Business School, comments: “We are excited to partner with the University of Bradford on the Ad:Venture programme and we are confident that it will bring great value to the businesses that access the Pathway. Starting a business can be overwhelming at times and we understand the importance of professional support and advice. We know that those that join this programme will be in very good hands and look forward to hearing about the outcomes.”

Professor Zahir Irani, University of Bradford, Dean of the Faculty of Management, Law and Social Sciences, comments: “We are excited to be working with the University of Huddersfield to offer this highly practical package of support to upskill young businesses.

“The Business Pathway event series in Huddersfield comes off the back of a very successful first run at the University of Bradford this Summer, and we are delighted that this popular programme will now be more readily accessible to Kirklees based businesses, with the University of Huddersfield acting as our hosts for all eight workshops.

“We welcome applications to the workshops from pre-starts, sole traders, partnerships and businesses with less than three years trading experience from anywhere in the Kirklees Council area.”

Jamie Friel, Director from Easy Check, took part in a series of eight sessions that were delivered by AD:VENTURE and comments: “So far I have found the AD:VENTURE programme to be extremely informative and beneficial and it has been a great pleasure to have been lectured by experts delivering each of the workshops.

“The programme has given me the confidence to take my concept that little step further and I will be continuing to steadily progress with my business venture and I’m sure I will remain in contact seeking advice in the future.”
