Youngsters go behind the scenes at MeadowSide to gain an insight into how their school neighbourhood is developing

Model of MeadowSide Inspires local schoolchildren

Children from Years 1-8 at King of Kings school on Dantzic Street in the city centre were given a glimpse of how their school neighbourhood is developing on a tour of MeadowSide, the development by Far East Consortium (FEC) of 756 apartments and townhouses bordering Angel Meadow, the largest green space in central Manchester.

A dozen children were given the opportunity to see how a site is created from an initial idea and 3D model through to construction work on site leading to new homes at Mount Yard, The Stile and The Gate, the three buildings that make up the eagerly anticipated new MeadowSide development..

“The children were fascinated by how they could see the architectural model and then the actual buildings being erected at scale just metres away. It brought to life the ideas of the architects and designers and inspired them to make their own models of buildings,” say Rebecca Kirkland, community liaison manager at developer, FEC.

Added teacher Mark Golamhossen, “The children asked so many questions and were genuinely intrigued as to how a project on this scale is developed . They learnt about the many careers there are from architecture and quantity surveying to construction workers and interior designers in the marketing suite. They all returned to school brimming with ideas.”

CZHKWestfields tour organiser, Catherine Janes, added, “The children were keen to visit and we ensured we adhered to Government guidelines throughout so that they could get the most out of their time with us. They know more about our industry and about their local environment now and really enjoyed the activity.”.
