Aldi, the first supermarket sponsor of Team GB, is putting the Midas touch in-store turning two Yorkshire store checkouts gold in honour of Aldi’s Team GB ambassadors and Olympic gold medal winners, Jack Laugher and Nicola Adams.

The nation watched intensely as Team GB made history securing the largest medal haul ever, bringing home 67 medals, making Rio 2016 their greatest Olympic performance to date.

On Thursday 1st September Aldi in Burley, Leeds, revealed its gold till in honour of Yorkshire local, Nicola Adams. The first gold till at Jack Laugher’s local store in Harrogate was unveiled on 18th August. Customers will be urged to go for gold and check out their items on the winner’s till.

Jack Laugher with his diving partner, Chris Mears, led the way winning Team GB’s first ever gold medal victory in the men’s synchronised three-metre springboard final. He wasn’t alone on the winner’s podium for long, as Nicola Adams’ stunning gold victory in the women’s flyweight 51kg boxing.

Tony Baines, Joint Managing Director of Corporate Buying at Aldi, commented: “Everyone at Aldi is extremely proud of all of the Team GB athletes and we’re thrilled to have seen our ambassadors win gold medals. We wanted to do something to celebrate and turning three of our tills gold in their local stores will help us and our customers celebrate their proud achievement.”

Members of the public can find out what food some of their favourite athletes love to eat and leave messages of support for their favourite ‘Homegrown Hero’ via the dedicated website www.teamgb.com/homegrownheroes.
