Bolton construction site manager receives NHBC recognition

Karl Henshaw, the site manager at Bellway Homes’ Cotton Meadows development in Bolton, is the proud recipient of a National House Building Council (NHBC) Pride in the Job award.

It is Karl’s first Pride in the Job award as a site manager, however he was part of the award-winning Bellway team last year as assistant site manager.

In existence for over 35 years, the Pride in the Job scheme is dedicated to recognising the industry’s very best performers. It is a prestigious accolade that site managers strive to achieve.

To win, site managers must score highly in all areas of the build process including quality of workmanship, technical expertise, health and safety, management and leadership. In addition, judges are also looking for meticulous and consistent attention to detail and the special qualities and attributes that set winners apart from the rest.

Having worked in the construction industry for over 12 years, starting off as an apprentice bricklayer and progressing to management, Karl, from Urmston, is thrilled to receive his first Pride in the Job award. He commented: “I am over the moon to win this award. It feels as though all the hard work and commitment that I and the whole team at Cotton Meadows put in has paid off.

“I am particularly pleased to have received the Pride in the Job award on my first attempt as site manager – that is a huge achievement. I hope it is the first of many!”

Construction Director at Bellway Homes, Paul Wright, added: “We are very proud of Karl and what he has achieved during his three years at Bellway Homes, particularly this recent Pride in the Job award.

“The NHBC Pride in the Job award is recognised as one of the most highly regarded accolades achieved in the house building industry, and this year has been no exception with 16,000 entries across the UK.

“It is wonderful to see Karl achieve such a prestige award. He was promoted from assistant site manager to site manager 18 months ago and Cotton Meadows is his first development. It takes a great deal of hard work, dedication and leadership to get this far in the competition and we are all proud of the high quality product delivered by Karl and his team on site.”

The NHBC Pride in the Job award ceremony will be held in Manchester on Friday 27th October.

Paul concludes: “Karl is a talented and skilled site manager and we are looking forward to celebrating his success at the event, and seeing what the future holds for him.”
