CNG pledges ongoing support to Woodland Trust for local projects

Ahead of National Tree Week (23rd November – 1st December), Harrogate-based energy supplier CNG has renewed its role as a corporate partner of The Woodland Trust for the sixth consecutive year and pledged hands on support for Nidd Gorge.

CNG has now been working with the charity since 2013 – alongside other major brands including IKEA and Sainsbury’s – in which time it has been involved in multiple projects focused on the revitalisation, maintenance and future-proofing of vital new and ancient woodlands.

In 2016, CNG’s team planted trees in memory of each person named on Harrogate’s cenotaph, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the WW1 Battle of the Somme. CNG has actively planted more than 6,000 trees since the partnership began which has totalled more than 300 volunteer hours from the team. CNG’s support is also helping to fund the MOREwoods project, which enables landowners to apply for free trees to plant on their land.

CNG’s latest work with The Woodland Trust was a pledge to help with the restoration of Nidd Gorge – a local conservation site which until recently was under threat by a proposed relief road around Harrogate.

Jacqui Hall, MD of CNG, says: ”We’ve absolutely loved our time supporting The Woodland Trust over the last six years, they’re a fantastic organisation to work with. Our CNGers just love getting stuck in, breathing fresh country air and doing some good for vital green spaces.

“The UK currently falls short of tree planting targets by 71 per cent so it’s more important than ever that we maintain our commitment to volunteering and help do our part to tackle climate change. We’re proud to be as hands on as possible through this partnership, which is why we renewed for another year!”
