CQC Praise for Washington Lodge Care Home

Staff celebrate their Good CQC report

Washington Lodge care home in Washington, Tyne & Wear has been rated as ‘Good’ in all areas following its latest Care Quality Commission inspection.

The inspection focused on safety and leadership and the ‘Good’ ratings for those areas reflected the overall status of the home.

Washington Lodge is a nursing home which provides nursing and personal care for up to 65 people, some of whom are living with dementia. The operation of the home was taken over in October 2022 by Healthcare Management Solutions.

The inspector noted that ‘people and their relatives were very positive about the care provided. People told us they felt safe and staff had the skills to support them. Relatives provided positive examples of how staff had helped improve people’s lives since moving to the home.’

The report also stated that ‘people were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice.’

It also said that ‘the service was consistently managed and well-led. Leaders and the culture they created promoted high-quality, person-centred care.’

Alison Boote, operations director at Healthcare Management Solutions said: “This report is testament to the whole team at Washington Lodge and the enthusiasm with which they have embraced the changes introduced under our management.

“Excellent quality of care and support for residents is the main priority and the report provides independent testament that this is being achieved, with very positive remarks from the inspector, residents and their families.”
