Durham student accommodation finalised with ‘stunning’ railing design

A recently completed student accommodation project in Durham, has had an additional touch of style added with unique, external railings designed by a former Durham Sixth Form Centre student.

Callum Harker, who took part in a design competition, impressed the judges with his artistic and stunning take on Durham Cathedral that perfectly enhanced the new development located on Mayorswell Close.

The organisers of the competition presented Callum with a cheque in front of ‘The Clink’ accommodation, where the railings are located.

Andrew Scott from Intersect, the project Architects, said: “Callum’s design responded to the competition brief brilliantly, providing an impressive entrance to the development.”

Garry Hope, Managing Director, of the Main Contractor, Robertson: added: “We’re delighted to have delivered a project that will greatly benefit students at the University and Callum’s stunning design really brings added personality to the site.”

The new railings stand in front of the project which has a mixture of cluster and studio bedrooms together with common rooms, games room, gym, cinema, laundry and quiet study areas transforming a former derelict site whilst respecting its location within the Conservation Area.

This is the second project in the North East the team has delivered for developer Gilltown. Roman House another student accommodation project, behind the Central Station in Newcastle, was successfully handed over last year and has been a great success.
