Placemaking was on the agenda at a workshop held in the town last week as representatives from a range of sectors came together to discuss best practice.
Organsied by Regenda Homes, the workshop saw speakers from Lancaster University, Wyre Borough Council and Active Lancashire discuss innovative approaches to improving public health, achieving growth and delivering long term, sustainable regeneration.
Attendees also took part in a range of small group discussions identifying challenges and opportunities and how these can be solved to improve communities.
Regenda Homes is a leader in place-based regeneration and is investing £10m into Fleetwood as part of its 10-year vision. Chris Standish, Regeneration Manager at Regenda Homes, presented the organisations approach to place-making and shared best practice.
Chris Standish said: “I was delighted with the turnout at the workshop and would like to thank all of the speakers who took the time to share their approaches and experiences.
“Place making is about delivering regeneration through planning, design and management. We capitalise on local community assets and potential, working closely with a wide range of partner agencies to promote wellbeing.
“We have already had huge success in Oldham and are currently part way through our 10-year vision to regeneration Limehurst and Hollinwood, with significant private sector investment and new sporting facilities providing opportunities for local residents.
“This is something we are now looking to replicate in Fleetwood and we have already started to deliver some fantastic results.”

Following the workshop, attendees were taken on a guided tour of key sites in Fleetwood were regeneration work was well underway, including the new Extra Care site, Lighthouse View, on Chatsworth Avenue; the EWI project being undertaken by M&Y Maintenance and Construction on the Flakefleet Estate and the Greenfield Road project.
