Green-light Granted for Three Apartment Blocks in Liverpool City Centre

Liverpool based Bevington Developments have been granted planning consent for a multi-use residential development located at the northern edge of Liverpool City Centre within Vauxhall. The scheme is spread across a 0.7 ha site, comprising three separated buildings, connected by hard and soft landscaping. In total, there will be 614 apartments, including; 106 x studios, 382 x 1-beds, and 126 2-beds within 9, 11 and 17-storey buildings.

Historically, this site was partially occupied by the Street Martin’s Market, a central landmark known for more than trading with a notable square for patrons to gather and socialise, a space configured in-between a grouping of smaller buildings. Managing Director of Bevington Developments, Greg Malouf, describes the recently approved residential build as an opportunity to re-create a vibrant community in a now under-utilised, derelict site.

“Our vision for this apartment complex gives nod to the property’s heritage tied to the Street Martin’s Market with the tallest building acting as a beacon, providing a strong identity for the development, facing north on Scotland Road towards the city centre and the grouping of residences are unified with an enclosed multi-functional courtyard and gardens.”

The development will also feature a resident’s gym, secure car and cycle parking, as well as commercial units on the lower-level. Planning consultants at Zerum advised on what is now the second application launched and approved for Bevington Developments for this site, as Director Nikki Sills, explains:

“Initially plans were to build student accommodation and since securing consent in April 2016, Bevington reviewed the scheme and amended it to comprise a mix of residential apartments that fulfill market demands and responds to the character of the surrounding area. The massing and scale of the blocks of apartments resemble the original designs, falling in line with similar-sized residential and industrial buildings to the east and west.”

The site approved for development is within Pumpfields, an area in Liverpool in the process of regeneration, acknowledged as the new northern extension of the city centre boundary aiming to create space for the expansion of businesses and residential properties. Specifically, the development will be bound by Bevington Bush to the west, a slip road to Kingsway Tunnel to the north and Scotland Road to the east. To make way for the new development, the site will be cleared of existing buildings.

Falconer Chester Hall are the scheme’s architects and contractors for the build have yet to be appointed.
