Housebuilder’s Health & Safety Initiative with Chorley Children

Children in Chorley received lessons in health and safety last week thanks to an initiative by Miller Homes. With the build progressing well on the company’s Parklands View development, the housebuilder is working with primary school children in Chorley to help educate young people about general health and safety, as well as the importance of staying safe near construction sites.

As part of the initiative the children met with Tony Haigh, one of the company’s safety, health and environment representatives, who explained some basics about health and safety during a fun and interactive session at Buckshaw Primary School.

Tony said: “As a business it’s very important to us that we work closely with the communities in which we operate. As we continue our Parklands View development, health and safety is often at the forefront of everyone’s mind and we wanted to take the opportunity to provide some guidance to children living close to our developments about potential hazards. By heightening their awareness, they can continue to have fun without putting themselves or others at unnecessary risk.

“It was great to spend time with the children and I hope they enjoyed the interactive lesson. Although there is a serious message behind this initiative, the sessions will ensure the children develop an understanding of the importance of health and safety in everyday life in a fun and interactive way.”

Mrs Stephens, headteacher of Buckshaw Primary adds: “The children have thoroughly enjoyed their time learning about health and safety at housing developments. Tony made it fun and interactive, keeping all the pupils attentive and keen to know more.”
