Local housebuilder teams up with school to urge drivers to slow down

Local housebuilder, Barratt Homes, has teamed up with pupils from Cherry Tree Academy to design road safety signs for its Ashmeade Park development in Pontefract, to highlight the dangers of driving too fast on residential roads. Three winning designs will now be made into signs to be displayed at the entrance to the development, warning local road users to slow down.

Visiting Ashmeade Park with their designs last week, the Year 4 pupils got to meet the Barratt Homes team and see where the winning road safety signs would be displayed, at the entrance to the development. Kiera, Heidi and Declan , all aged 9, have been named as the winners of the competition and are proudly awaiting the development of their drawings to become a fixture at Ashmeade Park.

Jane Storey, class teacher at Cherry Tree Academy, commented:
“We’re thrilled to have been involved with Barratt Homes and this competition – the children loved designing their signs and it taught them a valuable lesson in road safety awareness. Kiera, Heidi and Declan are delighted that they have won and we all can’t wait to see their designs displayed at Ashmeade Park!”

Gavin McCarthy, Sales Manager at Barratt Homes’ Ashmeade Park development, said:
“It has been brilliant to get involved with Cherry Tree Academy to help educate the children in road safety awareness, and ensure they’re part of our new, growing community at Ashmeade Park. It was very difficult to pick just three winners as the designs are all brilliant – we can’t wait to get Kiera, Heidi and Declan’s signs made up for everyone to see!”
