Local opticians puts safety first for children in York

Westfield Community Primary School

A local optician has donated a number of high-visibility vests to keep local primary school children safe when they are out on the streets over winter.

The Specsavers store in Acomb donated vests to students at Westfield Community Primary School, after launching a campaign to increase the safety of local children, which coincided with Road Safety Week 2019.

The campaign aims to make it easier for motorists to spot children when they’re walking and cycling to school, or when they’re out on school trips.

Alex Brightwell, Store Manager at Specsavers in Acomb, said: ‘It can be difficult for teachers to keep track of a group of children when out on school trips and navigating busy roads’.

‘With this in mind and the dark nights, we wanted to help increase the safety of children in the area and we were thrilled that Westfield Community Primary School were happy to be a part of our safety campaign.’
