Manchester opticians introduces new virtual technology

Twelve Manchester opticians have introduced new and exclusive virtual try-on technology across the ciy that will take the guess work out of buying glasses.

Specsavers in Manchester Arndale and in Salford, Stretford, Fallowfield, Swinton, Wythenshawe, Harpurhey, Openshaw, Eccles, Sale, Altrincham and Manchester Fort are excited to launch Frame Styler which will be offered to every customer.

The new technology, exclusive to Specsavers, allows customers to see how they look wearing glasses from every angle, seeing themselves as others would see them. Working with in-store frame advisors at the twelve Specsavers stores in Manchester, Frame Styler will be used to take a scan of the customer’s face, analysing their face shape, examining their purchase history and marrying the results with the latest trends.

Some 36 frames will be recommended to each customer and then narrowed down, allowing the customer to flick through images of themselves wearing the different frames without taking their glasses off.

To mark the introduction of Frame Styler, the opticians has unveiled ‘The Confidence Scale’, revealing the average Brit’s confidence peaks at 30. The research conducted by Specsavers also found 20 million Brits wish they had a better sense of style. Specsavers has teamed up with British style icon and first-time glasses wearer Louise Redknapp to launch the Specsavers Confidence Scale.

Louise Redknapp says: ‘For me, Frame Styler represents the future of shopping. I’m a mum-of-two – I don’t have time to spend hours trying things on! Frame Styler meant I had all the options right in front of me and could quickly create a shortlist of the frames I liked the most. It also meant I tried on styles and colours I previously would have never gone near in a million years – and guess what? I loved them all!’

Amanda Pedder, retail director at Specsavers Wythenshawe, Fallowfield and Swinton, says: ‘The Specsavers Confidence Scale shows that people want to branch out with their frame choices but confusion over different styles and lack of confidence is holding them back. We wanted to make it easier for them. Our Frame Styler technology uses an image of the face to work out what styles are best suited to any face shape.

Customers at Specsavers in Manchester can use Frame Styler as part of a normal eye appointment or they can just pop into a store and ask to try it out.
