Middlesbrough pupils showcase their writing talents for World Book Day at Nunthorpe housing development

Young pupils from Rosewood Academy have entered a story writing competition to celebrate World Book Day with local housebuilder, David Wilson Homes North East. The developer tasked pupils with writing a short story about the ducks living in the duck house, which was designed by a pupil at the school in 2015, and was built and installed at the Grey Towers Village development in Nunthorpe.

The Rosewood Academy pupils attended Grey Towers Village and were given a tour of the show home as well as a visit to the duck pond to view ‘Duckingham Palace’ before the winner was announced. Charlie Cobain was revealed as having written the most imaginative story, and received a £20 Toys R Us voucher as a prize.

Steven Ball, Sales Manager at Grey Towers Village, said: “We really value our links with the local community, so we were delighted to once again work with Rosewood Academy and host the children at Grey Towers Village for World Book Day. We received lots of entertaining and imaginative stories from some talented writers, so a huge thank you to everyone that got involved. There are definitely some rising literary stars in Nunthorpe!”

Tina Jackson at Rosewood Academy, commented: “The pupils have really enjoyed getting involved with this project and are thrilled to have finally met the ducks that they have been writing about. It’s as if their stories have come to life! We’ve had a fantastic day out and appreciate the community ethos of David Wilson Homes.”
