It’s not every day an insurance broker is asked to arrange cover for an 80-day event involving a launch with over 100 illuminated drones flying in synchronised formation, and much more. But this is exactly what Newcastle-based JM Glendinning was tasked with this month.

Last Friday saw the spectacular launch of the Great Exhibition of the North with an opening ceremony including pyrotechnics, poet Lemm Sissay performing his ‘Anthem for the North’ from the Millennium Bridge, Maximo Park playing from a barge on the River Tyne, and the UK’s largest water sculpture performed to three specially commissioned soundtracks.

Like any large-scale event, the Great Exhibition of the North is subject to many variables throughout the 80-day programme. It was important that event organisers, NewcastleGateshead Initiative, had the appropriate insurance cover in place.

Working closely with NewcastleGateshead Initiative, the JM Glendinning team arranged insurance cover to protect against potential event cancellation, alongside Public and Employers Liability and equipment hire insurance.

Dean Hartley, Director at JM Glendinning says: “This is an outstanding event and one which has spent many months in the planning stages to come to fruition. As a Newcastle-based business, we are naturally thrilled to play a part in its smooth running.

“We specialise in securing insurance policies for out of the ordinary events and businesses, and so we relished the opportunity to work with the Great Exhibition of the North organisers. With access to specialist insurers and experience of working with large scale event organisers, we were able to give them peace of mind that they have the best insurance cover available to them.”

The Great Exhibition of the North is a summer-long celebration of the North of England’s pioneering spirit.
