‘Not spot’ Teesside businesses and homes get access to ultrafast broadband

Tees Vaalley Mayor Ben Houchen launches new ultrafast broadband network

Broadband provider, ITS Technology Group and the Wilton Centre, Redcar have launched an all new ultrafast network to help overcome the broadband woes of a number of overlooked communities in Teesside.

The majority of homes and businesses in the area are served by legacy telephone networks. This new network uses fibre and wireless technology to deliver a portfolio of reliable, competitively priced broadband packages offering speeds from 10Mbps to 100Mbps for more bandwidth hungry customers.

Steve Duffield, site director, the Wilton Centre said: “ITS has been our connectivity and IT services provider for 15 years, so we have a lot of faith in their technical abilities. We saw a great opportunity to deepen our partnership by working together to develop this new network and have provided the site for the equipment. We understand only too well how digital connectivity underpins innovation and plays a vital role in all aspects of our lives.”

David Cullen, director strategy and compliance at ITS Technology Group said: “Having been active in the Teesside area for a number of years, we have seen that broadband speeds, access to high speed connectivity, and reliability can be a postcode lottery creating connectivity blackspots. Partnering with the Wilton Centre, we have provided an alternative network that offers choice and competitively priced services that do not compromise on speed or quality of service.”

Ben Houchen, Mayor of the Tees Valley, said: “Fast, reliable broadband is no longer regarded as something you can live without. People choose to buy a house based on how good the internet connection is, and businesses are choosing whether or not to invest in the Tees Valley based on connectivity.

“If we are going to support our innovators, job creators, entrepreneurs and risk-takers then we need to make sure they have access to high speed, reliable internet connections no matter where they are in the Tees Valley.

“I’m very pleased to see that ITS Technology Group and the Wilton Centre are addressing the scourge of ‘not spots’ in the region by deploying their innovative technology. I look forward to seeing the number of households and businesses suffering from poor internet connections in the Tees Valley reduced.”

ITS has a team of technical experts and customer support advisors based at the Wilton Centre, Redcar.
