Dewsbury-based nursery retailer Kiddies Kingdom has made a hugely generous donation to local baby charity, Rainbow Baby Bank, in Heckmondwike. The much-needed donation, which consisted of 50 brand new cot mattresses, will be distributed by the charity to local families in need of support.

Rainbow Baby Bank provides local families in need of support with care packages containing items needed to look after babies and has seen a surge in demand since the coronavirus outbreak earlier this year. The donation of cot mattresses has been especially welcomed as this particular product cannot be re-used, meaning the charity has to purchase each individual cot mattress using its own funds, as such items cannot be donated by the public. Supporting the local community is an important part of the retailer’s mission; Kiddies Kingdom’s showroom is based in Dewsbury, just a short distance from the charity head office and understanding the important work that the charity does for parents, the retailer has pledged an exciting long term partnership with Rainbow Baby Bank to provide any baby and nursery products that are needed moving forward.

Mohammed Patel, Managing Director at Kiddies Kingdom, said: “We are delighted to be able to support Rainbow Baby Bank and the local families they work with, during this difficult time.

“When the coronavirus pandemic hit, it was inevitably going to have a devastating impact on charities, like Rainbow Baby Bank, that rely purely on donations, so I was keen to get involved and help the team meet the increasing demand for cot mattresses in particular.

“Moving forward, we plan to collaborate with our manufacturers to facilitate and assist Rainbow Baby Bank with anything that they need. We stock pretty much every baby essential available, so are determined to ensure they are not short on supplies.”

Despite being under immense pressure, the Rainbow Baby Bank team has worked hard to provide disadvantaged families with much needed essentials for mothers and babies.

Charity volunteer, Angela Surtees, said: “The recent donation from Kiddies Kingdom could not have come at a better time and we are thrilled to be building a longstanding relationship moving forward.

“So many families are going through financial difficulty so the support we provide is more vital than ever. Cot mattresses are unique in that they cannot be re-used so have to be bought brand new, which is why this donation will be a big help for us and so many local people.”

The donation has won praise from local MP, Tracy Brabin, who was on hand to witness the donation being received on Friday 17th July.

Commenting on the donation, Ms Brabin said: “This donation of cot mattresses will help so many families at a time when many are struggling to make ends meet due to the impact of Covid-19, so I am incredibly thankful to Kiddies Kingdom for their generosity. It’s the perfect example of the community spirit that defines our area, and shows that our local businesses are still doing all they can to support charities such as Rainbow Baby Bank.”
