Demand for jobs going ‘Sky-wards’ prompts ambitious growth by East Midlands Recruitment Group

Sky Recruitment Solutions has opened a new office in Huddersfield to deal with the huge increase in demand for workers after the relaxation of Covid restrictions.

The town centre base next to The Media Centre has been set up to cope with the Yorkshire-wide employment boom.

The move means more growth for the recruitment business, which specialises in providing personnel for industrial roles. Forklift truck driving is one sector where demand is outstripping supply.

Sky Recruitment Solutions’ business manager for Yorkshire, Shane Callaghan, said the workforce shortage called for more of a personal approach which Sky was responding to.

He said: “We can now support clients from our big, bright office at the heart of Huddersfield town centre.

“We have three consultants and a part-time administrator, all guided by our new manager Natalia Wojciechowska. As we continue to grow, we will be looking for more high calibre staff to join our team.

“It’s great being right by The Media Centre which is a really vibrant place and home to 50 companies.

“We have developed bespoke inductions for small groups and have found job-hunters like this personal touch. Our clients appreciate it that way too.

“We responded to the Covid pandemic by setting up an online portal for would-be employees. We don’t just leave them to it, we take them through the steps to complete the paperwork and then invite them in for inductions.
“This is another area where we score highly. Other companies may have 100 people in for an induction. We only have 20 or 30 at a time so we can focus on high-quality content.

“We offer bespoke inductions for clients which turn out to be better value for money because the training is spot-on for each sector.”

Mr Callaghan said that having in-depth knowledge of the recruitment market is a huge advantage.

He said “We can spot – and stay on top of – the trends and factors such as the pay rates expected from skilled workers.

“We take care to respond to our customers’ needs – our free upskilling sessions ensure our clients experience a smooth and steady growth in business as the economy picks up. We take away the hassle.

Shane said that forklift truck drivers working in the warehousing sector were in demand.

He said: “We are especially looking for Very Narrow Aisle (VNA) drivers to work throughout Yorkshire.

“Now recruitment from EU countries has been sharply reduced, there is a huge demand for workers across manufacturing, warehousing, industrial and logistics.

“It is a competitive market, but we go that extra mile.”
