Sam climbs higher with roofing business

A business started by a young Teesside roofer from a garage at his home now has a team of five established in a prestigious business centre and ambitious plans for expansion.

Samuel Moore Roofing, set up in 2014, is thriving in a competitive market and operating successfully in both residential and commercial sectors across Teesside. Sam now has plans to extend across the North East and develop the potential he sees for real growth in the commercial sector, including working with major construction companies.

The company provides the whole range of roofing services from repairs and maintenance to replacements and new build, including tiling, slating, lead work and rooflines to membrane, liquid fibreglass, rubber, felt and even green ‘living’ roofs.

Sam, who lives in Redcar, started his working life in roofing and decided to use his qualifications, skills and experience to set up his own business. Moving into UK Steel Enterprise’s Innovation Centre on the Kirkleatham Business Park at Redcar in 2017 gave the business the opportunity to grow.

“It made a big difference as we really needed the space and all the managed facilities such as meeting rooms, free parking, a reception and the UKSE team always on hand”, said Sam. “Being part of a community with around 40 other business tenants is really supportive for a small business as well.”

The team at Samuel Moore Roofing now includes Dad Jeff who has a background in building and construction and came on board to help the business meet growing demand.

The family connections extend to Sam’s brother, who runs his own roofing company but the brothers often help each other out in exceptionally busy times. By creating jobs and supporting team members through qualifications, the business is also helping to ensure valuable skills are available in the future.

“We are in a competitive sector but have now built up a solid reputation for both quality and price,” said Sam. “I am pleased with progress and confident that we will continue to grow as we extend across the North East and take on more commercial work.”

Diane Parker of UK Steel Enterprise, the Tata Steel business-support subsidiary, said: “It has been really rewarding to see Sam’s business doing so well and his team growing since he moved in. Our two Innovation Centres on Teesside are specifically designed to support smaller businesses so they can concentrate on growth and we are sure that Samuel Moore Roofing will continue to expand.”
