Charlotte Armitage, YAFTA MD, with current Diploma Students

If you’ve always dreamed of a career as a screen actor or working behind the scenes on a blockbuster film, now might be your chance to make those dreams a reality.

The Yorkshire Academy of Film and Television Acting’s (YAFTA), ‘You Can’ Scholarship competition is offering a place worth nearly £8000 on one of their exclusive Diploma programmes. Specifically targeted at those from underrepresented, disadvantaged and minority groups, YAFTA actor and NTA winner, James Moore is proud to support the campaign: “It’s so important we encourage and support people from under-represented backgrounds to pursue a career in film and television if that’s what they dream of doing. Your background, race, religion or disability should not be a barrier and this scholarship will hopefully give someone a brilliant opportunity to start their acting career.”

Managing Director, Charlotte Armitage adds: “There is so much excitement across the Leeds City Region in the media industry and we want anyone who wants to be part of this sector to feel that they have the opportunity to be included and inspired. Here at YAFTA we are passionate about levelling the playing field in the acting industry for talented individuals regardless of their disability, ethnicity or socio-economic background. We want to ensure that under-represented groups and those from disadvantaged backgrounds are given the opportunity to follow their passion and are supported to launch their career in the Film and TV industry.”

YAFTA is also delighted to again receive support from award winning, and rising star within the Film and TV industry, Blockbuster Production Manager, Bradford born, Umar Hussain.
Says Umar, 26: “The opportunity the YAFTA scholarship can give someone is so exciting – especially for someone who aspires to have a career in the Film and TV industry but has previously felt the sector isn’t an option for them. I’m proof there is so much opportunity and potential out there, you’ve just got to believe and go for it!”

Both YAFTA’s Acting for Screen and Film and TV Production Diplomas are part-time, blended learning courses led by skilled, industry experts and the only ones of their kind in the north.
