Spectrum Ophthalmics volunteers for Vision Day

Macclesfield-based Spectrum Ophthalmics has partnered with the East Cheshire Eye Society to help make its bi-annual Vision Day event a huge success.

The charity event took place at Macclesfield Town Hall, with several VIP guests in attendance including multiple gold winner paralympic cyclist Sophie May (nee Thornhill) MBE, the Mayor of Cheshire East and Mayor of Macclesfield, as well as David Rutley MP.

Two members of the Spectrum Ophthalmics team, Ayshea Domun and Jo Taylor, volunteered at the event. They were responsible for helping at the sign in desk, taking details of all guests and recording the number of attendees.

The event aims to help people affected by sight loss to lead fulfilling lives at home, at work and in the community. Featuring sight loss advice, an exhibition showcasing the latest equipment and visual impairment support, details for a broad range of services offered from sight loss charities, organisations and suppliers was available to guests.

Inspiring guests at Vision Day was Sophie May. Visually impaired, Sophie has enjoyed an exceptional career as a racing cyclist competing in para-cycling tandem track events, winning gold medals, world champion titles and setting world records.

Ayshea Domun says: “Jo and I were delighted to volunteer our time to help at Vision Day. It’s a superb event hosted by the East Cheshire Eye Society, a local charity that provides advice, information, training, equipment demonstrations and support to individuals who have lost their sight. It was fantastic to meet Sophie and the other VIP guests too.

“As a company we are committed to bringing greater vision to everyone, providing innovative products to the UK and Ireland ophthalmic market, so partnering with the East Cheshire Eye Society for its bi-annual Vision Day event was a natural choice. We hope to continue to work with the charity in the near future.”

Alan Chappell, Charity Manager, adds: “It was great to have Ayshea and Jo from Spectrum Ophthalmics volunteering at Vision Day. It’s a big event in the East Cheshire Eye Society calendar so the more help we receive, the smoother the day goes, which is ultimately what we want for our guests. Both Ayshea and Jo did a superb job on the day – they are very much welcome to volunteer again!”
