Staff at the United Carpets and Beds store on Bolton Road have been praised by a local charity group for helping an elderly gentleman return home.
The Chorley Lions Club raises money for local causes and helps those in need. The charity contacted United Carpets and Beds in order to purchase carpets for a gentleman they were supporting; an elderly amputee, who had been placed in a care home as his home was deemed inhabitable by social services.
Scott Astley, assistant manager of the United Carpets and Beds store, heard the story and promised to help, by providing and fitting new flooring in his home for free.
Chorley Lions Club has also helped the gentleman by providing a fridge, tables and other furniture. In a letter to Scott, Barbara Morgan, president of Chorley Lions Club said that the man was “deeply touched” by the generosity from United Carpets and Beds, she added: “We wish to give you a huge thank you for your wonderful generosity.
“Without people such as you and your colleagues, the world would be a much poorer place. You have made it infinitely richer and kinder. We recently took the man a hamper and he could not believe that his local community had transformed his flat from a prison to a true home.”
Operations director at United Carpets and Beds, Paul Newton responded to Scott’s gesture by saying: “We were delighted to hear about how the Chorley team had helped to make sure an elderly gentleman could return back to his home. A new floor can really make a difference to a home, and in this case it was crucial to making the home habitable and giving him some independence back.”
