A Yorkshire charity that helps to change the lives of families across the region is able to continue the fantastic work that it does thanks to the generosity of one housebuilder.
Miller Homes, which offered £1000 to one worthy winner, asked community groups from across the region to say, in no more than 200 words, why they should be the recipient. After much consideration, Calderdale Lighthouse, a registered charity based in Halifax, was decided as the winner.
“Our warmest congratulations go to all the team at Calderdale Lighthouse, and we felt their application was particularly relevant and heartwarming,” said Debbie Whittingham, Sales Director, Miller Homes Yorkshire. “It is a fantastic community-based project that supports families and children across Yorkshire, and we hope that our donation will give them much needed support to continue the great work that they do.”
Established in 2018 the charity supports families with essential baby equipment, clothing, bedding, toiletries and toys. Referrals and requests for support are made through midwives, health visitors, schools and medical professionals to ensure help is given to the most in need.
Diane Barker, Co-Founder of the project commented; “We are a registered charity run entirely by volunteers and rely on donations to be able to support vulnerable and disadvantaged families across Yorkshire. This wonderful win will allow us to purchase some of the most needed items to help us support those that need essential items to care for their children, keep them safe and allow them to play. We are quite simply delighted!”
One lady, a mum of two who lost her job to Covid, recently received some clothes from the charity for her two daughters who had outgrown their others commented; “My children’s eyes lit up when they saw their new clothes. Thank you so much you made my day. I cannot express how important these charities are to families like us. We will be eternally grateful for the help you have offered from your fantastic service.”
