Company culture can ruin a nursing organisations recruitment success and their ability to retain and engage staff according to Clayton Recruitment.

Data from thousands of placements over the last thirty years reveals that an organisations culture is a factor for many nursing professionals who are deciding to stay with their current employer or move to pastures new.

Lynn Sedgwick, Managing Director at Clayton Recruitment, said, “We have placed thousands of nurses into healthcare positions across the UK during the last 30 years and we have noticed that in the last 24 months the culture in an organisation can make a huge difference to whether a candidate says yes or no to a job offer.

This issue has an even greater impact for employers too as increasingly we are contacted by nursing professionals who want to move from their current employer because the culture is poor.”

Lynn Sedgwick went on to add, “Though running a nursing team has its challenges because of the lack of flexibility in delivering the role, for example popular work from home flexibility isn’t always possible, there are plenty of other things nursing managers and leaders can implement that can make a difference to their culture.

For instance asking teams members what is important to them, giving regular praise and recognition, handling conflict fast through an open door policy are ideas any organisation can act on fast and see a corresponding shift in culture.”
