Stockton Business Success in Winning Contracts with Teesside University

Andy Maclaren, Assisstant Director of Estate Services and John Heward, Managing Director of JH Mechanical Services

After the success of the last contract, JH Mechanical Services will continue to be the go to contractor of Mechanical Pipe Services as well as Electrical Services for Teesside University over the next 4 years.

JH Mechanical Services, based in Stockton on Tees, is a leading provider of Mechanical and Electrical services to a variety of clients from the education sector to housing associations as well as to more commercial and industrial clients.

Last year they paved the way to set up new electrical department and recruited experienced people to build a strong team of qualified Supervisors and Electrical Engineers.

Work on this contract will consist of electrical repairs, minor works and small projects.

John Heward, Managing Director said: “With any of these contracts we have had to compete against good competition, the price has got to be right but also quality has got to be right.

“We have done really well on the quality side, compared to when we won the first contract a few years ago to now is a different level, we have stepped it up and invested and hopefully that’s why our clients like us.”

Three years ago JH Mechanical Services were the smallest company to be awarded a term contract with Teesside University.

Work during this time included statute maintenance and servicing on any mechanical planting equipment, minimising breakdowns and being first port of call to get things back up and running in a timely manner.

Andy Maclaren, Assistant Director of Estate Services said: “We have worked with JH Mechanical Services for around 5 years now. It has been great to watch a small local business grow over the years and be part of this success.

They provide excellent services and we are looking forward to continuing our working relationship over the next 3 years.”

The company will be celebrating 6 years in business at the end of May and with a recent office expansion are continuing their plans to grow.

In total, JH Mechanical Services currently house 26 members of staff, including 14 engineers.

There is no end in sight for JH Mechanical Services right now, they are focusing on delivering a high quality service and keeping clients happy.

John added: “The main aims right now is to be the best person to work for and the best company to do a job, with a happy workforce who enjoy coming to work and take real pride in the jobs they carry out.

“We have had great feedback lately on some electrical work on a project for the Thirteen Group as well as the completion of a boiler plant in Sunderland.

“The feedback we received from both the Thirteen Group and the consultants who created the designs has been fantastic.

“I didn’t have an end game when I bought my first van 6 years ago and still don’t have an end game, we must be doing something right as clients want to use us, clients keep using us and hopefully that will continue.”
