RG (Ryecroft Glenton) the Newcastle based accountancy and business advisory firm, is collecting crisp packets to raise money for scouts and encourage environmental awareness.
Fiona Hall, Personal Assistant at RG, said: “My sister, Carol, volunteers with the 1st Shiremoor Scout Group and told me about this great idea to raise money for the scouts and encourage recycling.”
The scout group is based at Holystone Primary School and has 80 members, beavers, cubs and scouts, aged between 6 to 14, and 15 adult volunteers.
Carol said: “We joined the TerraCycle®, scheme earlier this year. For every 2kg of crisp packets you earn 200 points, worth £2, towards supporting our group. Fiona and I are surrounded by crisp packets!
“The financial reward from the recycling scheme is greatly appreciated but it is also very important to raise awareness of the environmental benefits of recycling.”
Once received by TerraCycle®, the crisp packets are sorted and separated by material composition. The separated items are then cleaned, shredded, and made into new recycled products.
Staff at RG frequently take part in local and national charity events. On ‘Wear it Yellow day’ staff joined millions of people across the UK, showing their support towards Marie Curie’s Great Daffodil Appeal, and raised over £600.
Twenty-three members of staff, including managing partner, Chris Robson, took part in a daredevil zip-wire event, off the Tyne Bridge, in aid of St Oswald’s Hospice. £8,000 was raised and the team were presented with an award, by St Oswald’s, for the biggest team and the most funds raised.
Fiona concluded: “It’s great to know the RG crisp packet collection is not just helping 1st Shiremoor Scout Group to raise money but we are, at the same time, stopping crisp packets ending up in landfill.”
