AVID Technology Group boosts its presence in the US auto industry

Award-winning, UK automotive clean-tech firm AVID Technology Group has appointed Mike Dowsett Vice President of Business Development, to lead its expansion in North America.

To capitalise on the boom in vehicle electrification and clean automotive technology in the USA and Canada, Mike Dowsett will lead the business growth strategy and operations at AVID’s new US office based in Michigan state.

Mike, originally from Essex, brings over 30 years’ automotive industry experience to AVID, having worked both in the UK and United States in the hybrid, electrification and controlled power sector for a range of global industry players including Visteon Corp, FEV, Controlled Power Technologies, YASA Motors and Sevcon.

As a senior engineering manager, he’s led large global teams of engineers designing and developing electrification components and integrated powertrain systems for automotive and commercial vehicles. His specialisation is electric motors and inverters, along with efficient electrification system design. Mike started his career at Ford Motor Company.

Ryan Maughan, managing director at AVID Technology, said: “After a phenomenal 12 months in the USA we are delighted to bring Mike on board and be opening an office to support our rapidly growing customer base. Mike has huge experience in the automotive and electrification markets and will be ideally positioned to further grow the AVID business in North America.”

From its UK headquarters in the North East of England, AVID Technology develops batteries, electric motors and powertrain components for next generation hybrid and electric vehicles across the world. Its customer base includes tier one automotive suppliers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

The company was founded by engineer and entrepreneur Ryan Maughan in 2005. It is now a recognised leader in the field of systems electrification and heavy-duty vehicle electrification and hybridisation. The company’s knowledge and pioneering technology is used by manufacturers of high-performance passenger and motorsport vehicles, through to heavy-duty buses, commercial trucks and off highway machinery.

AVID Technology will officially launch its US operation at The Battery Show – North America 2018 in Michigan between 11-13 September. The three-day conference and exhibition is the largest advanced battery technology event for battery manufacturing and vehicle electrification in the US, bringing together industry leaders, suppliers and innovators specialising in advanced battery and critical power technologies.
