Award-winning housebuilder Bellway has partnered up with Wistaston Academy to help enhance the school’s reception outdoor area.
Part of a wider project to adapt its outdoor provision for reception children, particularly in light of the last year and with outdoor play and learning an integral part of school life post-pandemic, the school devised a comprehensive and innovative plan to upgrade the outdoor area.
With its Kingfisher Reach development just a short distance away, on Wistaston Green Road, Bellway donated £400 towards the project, which enabled the school to purchase resources to create a climbing wall. The climbing wall will be used during Free Flow, at playtime/lunchtime as well as in P.E. lessons, thus increasing the amount of physical activity of the pupils.
Delivered during lockdown and built by the school maintenance manager, James Lea, the reception pupils have immediately started to use and enjoy this latest piece of equipment.
Dominique Griffiths, Principal at Wistaston Academy, says: “Bellway’s generous donation towards our reception outdoor project was gratefully received. The climbing wall is a super addition to the area and the children love playing on it.
“The pandemic has had an impact on the available opportunities for children to play and learn outdoors. As pupils returned to school after this latest lockdown, our improved outdoor area will be integral to enabling key experiences and opportunities for our children to be physically active to promote their mental health and wellbeing.”
Jenny Bell, sales director at Bellway North West, adds: “We got in touch with the school to offer our help during lockdown and loved the proposed outdoor project at Wistaston Academy. We’re thrilled our donation has contributed to the area in a small way and that the climbing wall has been positively received by the pupils.”
