Businesses to be in the hot-seat for Bradford Manufacturing LIVE

An event which gives young people the opportunity to interview manufacturing employers and current employees is being held as part of the district’s first Bradford Manufacturing Week.

Bradford Manufacturing LIVE forms part of the events schedule for Bradford Manufacturing Week (8-12 October) – an awareness week which aims to put the spotlight on the industry and inspire young people to consider a career in the sector.

Organised by recruitment specialists The Works in conjunction with social media and PR consultancy Approach, Bradford Manufacturing LIVE is being held at Bradford College on 11 October and will include a live Twitter Q&A as well as on the spot questions from up to 100 local students aged between 14-18. Panellists prepared to take the questions include international chemicals and detergents manufacturer Christeyns, refrigeration specialists EPTA George Barker and Keighley Laboratories, who specialise in the heat treatment of metals.

Creator of Bradford Manufacturing Week, Nick Garthwaite, president of Bradford Chamber and MD of international chemicals and detergents manufacturer Christeyns, added: “Bradford Manufacturing Live is one of a number of events in the Bradford Manufacturing Week calendar and we are delighted to have an opportunity for young people to voice the questions they have of the manufacturers and the apprentices themselves. Using Twitter questions alongside the live audience means we can open out the conversation even more and engage as many young people and schools as possible.”

Craig Burton, managing director from The Works recruitment, said: “As a recruiter we are planning our talent pipeline for five to ten years. By engaging young people now and introducing them to the real opportunities in manufacturing, however a tiny part we can play, is the right thing to do and we’d encourage every employer to do the same.”

Bradford Manufacturing Week is being led by the West and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, and offers a range of events, work placements, and company visits in a bid to boost apprenticeship numbers and ‘work ready’ young people in the district.

The Week is being delivered with Bradford-based Aspire-igen and is supported by business leaders and sponsors, including Barclays Bank, Naylor Wintersgill, Mitton Group, Gordons LLP, the University of Bradford, Bradford Grammar School and Leeds Bradford Airport.
