Commuter cycling is the focus of BCO Market Cycles Seminar in Manchester

Phil Doyle, Chairman of the BCO Northern Committee and Director at 5Plus Architects

The popularity of cycling as part of the daily commute to work and the importance of office cycling facilities is the focus of a seminar hosted by the British Council of Offices in Manchester.

The findings of the BCO Market Cycles Report, explores the drivers for cycling and highlights occupier demand for cycling provision, how it has changed and what the future holds.

In the past five years the popularity of cycling has been on the rise. Undertaken by Remit Consulting, the objective of this study was to examine the implication cycling is having and will continue to have on the office market.

The report will be presented by Neil Webster, Director at Remit Consulting, and Martin Key, Senior Transport Advisor to the Cycling and Walking Commissioner, Transport for Greater Manchester.

Phil Doyle, Chairman of the BCO Northern Committee and Director at 5Plus Architects, said: “BCO research highlights 38% of office workers would consider commuting by bike if their workplace offered better facilities. UK businesses need to offer better facilities for cyclists.

“Increasingly we are seeing that new office schemes, in particular those recently completed or coming to market in Manchester, now have provision for workers wishing to cycle to work. This includes cycle stores, showers and lockers.”

101 Barbirolli Square, where the seminar is being hosted on Wednesday 21 November, includes a cycle store. Following the seminar David Porter, Office Head, Knight Frank Manchester will then chair a presentation and discussion on refurbishment trends in the Manchester office market. The event is being sponsored by Ardmac.
