Demand Is High For York’s Latest Student Accommodation Scheme

Work on York city centre’s latest student accommodation scheme is on target to complete in time for the start of the 2018/19 academic year, and more than a third of its 106 bedrooms have already been reserved following the launch of the development’s new show apartment.

The scheme on Percy’s Lane, is being developed by York based S Harrison, and GMI Construction Group PLC is the lead contractor on the project. Once complete, it will provide a collection of unique, self-contained townhouses that offer their own front doors, similar to a traditional shared student house, but with all the comforts modern students expect. There will also be a mix of one, three, five and six bedroom en-suite apartments.

The three and four storey buildings will include study spaces, a fully kitted gym, a cinema room, beautiful communal areas, a games room and a courtyard area. Once complete, it will be owned by Empiric (York Percy’s Lane) Limited and managed by Hello Student®. Both of these companies are wholly owned subsidiaries of Empiric Student Property Plc, which own and operate premium student accommodation schemes across the UK.
Appointments can now be made to view the newly opened show apartment, which is designed to offer an insight into the quality and specification on offer at the innovative development.

Ann Scott from S Harrison, says: “This development will give students at both the University of York and York St John University, a superb place to live in purpose built accommodation. It’s location at the heart of York’s Walmgate Conservation area, just a five-minute walk away from Parliament Street and the city centre’s main retail and leisure core, means it’s already proving to be extremely popular.

“There’s also an exceptional range of communal facilities on offer and the show apartment offers a genuine feel for the quality fixtures, fittings and furnishings that are a key feature of the scheme.”

The new scheme is replacing an industrial unit that was formerly home to electrical contractor and retailer Herbert Todd & Son. Last year, the longstanding York company relocated to purpose built premises at Monks Cross which were also developed by S Harrison.

Prices for a fully furnished property at Percy’s Lane start at £155 per person per week, including all utility bills, high speed WIFI and contents insurance.

S Harrison has a wealth of experience delivering student accommodation schemes after successfully completing four developments in York in recent years, totalling 877 beds. The developer has also recently completed work on a 240 bed student development in Edinburgh and a 63 bed scheme in Newcastle. Work is currently underway on a 180-room development on Blenheim Walk in Leeds city centre.
