eCommerce SaaS start-up on track for £1m turnover in second year of trading

Some of the Shoptimised team pre-lockdown

Shoptimised, a SaaS business based in South Tyneside, has announced it is on track for a projected £1m in turnover for their second year of trading.

The company, which won the Best Global Innovation award at the Global Biddable Media Awards 2020, works with eCommerce brands including END, SCS, Get The Label and more, as well as over 250 PPC agencies. Shoptimised delivers Feed Management Software that enables full control over a brand’s product feed optimisation on Google Shopping.

They’ve recently won contracts with footwear retailer Schuh, Cotswolds Outdoors and Crocs, bolstering their range of eCommerce clients further.

The last confirmed financial year turnover for Shoptimised was £430,000, but after a hugely successful year despite the challenges of 2020, they are on track to reach their projected turnover of £1m and are well ahead of targets with only 3 months left of their financial year.

There has also been significant growth in the team. Since March 2020, Shoptimised has grown the team from 7 to 12 and is currently advertising 10 additional roles, seeking an in-house marketing specialist to help deliver Shoptimised’s ambitious growth goals, as well as Google Shopping Technical Specialists, 1 Senior Developer & 4 Business Development Managers.

By mid-2022, Shoptimised is aiming for a turnover of £2.5M, which will enable them to create a further 20 roles in the business.

The business has invested a lot of resources into building more internal tools within the software as they aim to make Shoptimised a fully-virtual workplace for all employees to support the ongoing home-working environment.

Speaking of the recent growth and how they’ve navigated challenges posed by the pandemic, John Cave, co-founder and Director of Shoptimised said: “We’ve been incredibly fortunate not to have lost any staff and actually hired 5 new members during the pandemic and subsequent lockdown.

“We’ve adapted well to homeworking and will continue that indefinitely, and have begun hiring around the country so we can find the right specialists to join our business. As part of our ongoing growth some of the roles we want to fill will be European based.”

Google reported 4 years of eCommerce acceleration within the first three months of lockdown. A large number of sectors have now returned to pre-pandemic levels, but many new and stronger online shopping habits have been formed and agencies and retailers are looking for more robust shopping strategies and partners.

In what’s a busy quarter for online retailers, partners and agencies, Shoptiised clients await what many are tipping to be the busiest November ever for online sales. With customer attention at its highest, product feed optimisation has never been so crucial.
