Freaks of Nature launch plant-based lemon mousse during lock-down

Despite difficult trading conditions, Yorkshire-based Freaks of Nature is launching a new chilled dessert which will be on sale in 200 Waitrose stores from today.

Over the past few months the innovative plant-based brand, whose desserts are sold directly and via own-label lines to major retailers including Asda, Morrisons, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, M&S ,CO-OP and Waitrose, has been busy perfecting a low calorie lemon mousse at its factory in Ossett.

Just like the rest of their chilled dessert and hot pud ranges, the new lemon mousse has been produced to meet the needs of people avoiding dairy, gluten and egg and for those following a plant-based diet. All of the Freaks of Nature’s products are suitable for over 98% of the UK’s consumers.

Since launching the UK’s first plant-based Belgium chocolate mousse in January the company has been inundated with requests for other mousse flavours, fruit ones in particular.

Commenting on their latest development, Freaks of Nature’s founder Peter Ahye said: “It’s been challenging adapting our manufacturing operations to ensure safe social distancing but everyone at Freaks has responded brilliantly. It’s exciting being able to bring real innovation to the market still; we are committed to creating great tasting plant-based desserts that are suitable for everyone.

“These lemon mousses really are quite ingenious even if we say so ourselves! We’ve tested them against the best of the rest and they will certainly give dairy-based mousses a run for their money. The combination of the fabulous fruity flavour and bubbly consistency is exceptional.”

Freaks of Nature is ramping up its range and has two more ground-breaking plant-based desserts in development which will be in supermarkets later this summer.
