HRC Law partner with BIRA in event for Manchester’s independent retailers

HRC Law is hosting an event for Manchester’s independent retailers in collaboration with the British Independent Retailers Association (BIRA).

Following an inaugural event last year at which owners and managers of independent stores gathered to share their challenges and opportunities with Councillor Pat Karney, the event aims to re-launch with additional support and renewed focus.

Taking place at HRC Law’s St Ann’s Square offices at 6pm on Tuesday 2nd October, the initiative aims to support and give a voice to the city’s independent retailers, operating in an increasingly tough marketplace. A perfect storm of business rates, overhead hikes, big brand competition, Brexit concerns and the economic squeeze on purse strings has created a challenging environment.

Helen Marsh, partner at HRC Law commented: “Independent retailers give our city’s streets their character and personality, bringing buildings to life at street-level. Yet many are finding it increasingly difficult to compete commercially.

“As an independent business ourselves, we understand the pressures facing these retailers and want to provide a platform whereby open discussions can take place. Our inaugural event brought to light some pressing and charged issues and now, with the additional support of bira, we’re excited to use this platform to incite meaningful change. It’s vital we support Manchester’s independent retailers.”

Lorna Lewis, Regional Membership Manager at bira added: “What HRC Law has been working towards in the city is so neatly aligned with our own mission, so we were thrilled to be given the opportunity to partner with them to support retailers. We believe that working together we all are able to achieve more and hope that within this forum we are able to bring added support to our members and the wider community of independents.”
