Lookers Nissan Gateshead has raised vital funds for The Alzheimer’s Society as part of its annual Lookers Golf Day held at George Washington Golf and Country Club.

Lookers, one of the UK’s largest automotive retailers, welcomed local business leaders to enjoy the golfing event at the resort on the outskirts of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, before an afternoon reception held in the club house.

The event managed to raise over £2,500, which will go towards helping The Alzheimer’s Society combat a disease that around six million EU citizens currently suffer from, a figure that is projected to double by 2030 as a result of an aging global population.

Lookers has become a key sponsor in the UK’s golfing calendar and has helped to raise over £40,000 for charities including The Prince’s Trust, which it recently supported at its annual golf day and gala dinner at Close House Golf Resort in Northumberland.

As well as a supporter of the sport at a grass roots level, Lookers also supports the development of new golfing talent and recently sponsored the first round of the HotelPlanner.com PGA EuroPro Tour at Close House, also known as The Lookers Championship. The tour represents the third tier of professional golf and gives emerging golfing talent the opportunity to climb up the ranks.

Lookers has developed a close relationship with George Washington Golf and Country Club, which sees it host a number of events there across the year, as well as sponsor the flags that adorn its 18 hole championship and 7 hole par 3 course.

As well as a prize auction, there were spot prizes for the longest drive, closest to the pin and, for anyone skilled enough to get a hole-in-one, the prize of a brand new car.

Peter Lyall, Fleet Sales Executive at Lookers Nissan Gateshead, said: “This was a fantastic day with incredible people, customers, colleagues and suppliers who all wanted to make a difference and support people suffering from this terrible and cruel disease.

“Alzheimer’s disease has featured quite prominently in the press lately and is a growing concern for many of us, so we are proud to have been able to raise these funds to help The Alzheimer’s Society continue to carry out its vital work.”
