The owners of oven valeting firm Ovenu Warrington are providing a loving home for ageing greyhound Maisie, after she was unable to face the trauma of being placed in kennels long-term.
Husband and wife team Paul and Andrea Clark made the 250-mile round trip to collect the distinctive blue brindle from Lincolnshire Greyhound Trust after responding to its appeal for emergency foster carers.
She was rehomed by the trust four years ago, but Maisie’s luck appeared to have run out when that owner was forced to give her up after falling seriously ill.
The independent charity issued the appeal for foster carers after realising the traumatised 10-year-old would not cope with any extended stay in kennels while awaiting a new owner.
Within hours, they received a call from the Clarks who headed to the trust’s base in Lincoln to meet anxious Maisie. Within moments, they had offered to sponsor her and provide her with a permanent home.
Paul said: “It’s much more difficult to rehome an older dog and the trust was concerned that Maisie may be stuck in kennels for some time or even permanently, compounding the stress of having to leave her previous owner.
“She is such a loving and gentle dog that, rather than become her foster carers, we agreed to provide the reassurance of a permanent home, where she can see the rest of her days out in comfort. Ovenu Warrington will also take care of all her food and vet bills.”
Maisie was born in 2010 and it is understood that, while she never raced, her sister did and proved quite successful.
Andrea added: “Maisie is already settling in well with our other three greyhounds and is settling into her new surroundings.
“She was facing a very uncertain future, so it’s a privilege to be able to give her the security of a proper home, as well as lots of attention and walks!”
Ovenu Warrington offers home or business owners a complete oven valeting service that involves dismantling key components of an oven, such as the door, interior panels, fan and shelves. The cleaning process takes between two and three hours and leaves the oven and exterior in immaculate condition.
