‘Pioneering’ move as shopping centre welcomes major leisure operator, creating 50 jobs

Doncaster’s Frenchgate Shopping Centre will be the first shopping centre in the north to welcome the UK’s biggest trampoline park operator when Flip Out opens its doors in July, bringing 50 jobs to the city business region.

Flip Out has redeveloped the 28,000 sq ft former BHS site which has seen Frenchgate pioneering the first change of use of this kind for a former BHS unit in the UK and Ireland.

Paddy Mellon, Frenchgate General Manager, said: “Completing this deal demonstrates our innovative and creative approach to leasing space, especially given more than 100 BHS units remain empty across the country.
“We are using space in a new way to transform not just Frenchgate but Doncaster’s town centre in an ambitious and pioneering change for the high street.

“Offering different experiences to compliment the retail offering really is the innovation the high street needs and further strengthens our position as a leading local shopping destination.

“We can’t wait to open the doors to Flip Out, a unique and exciting new leisure option for our customers.”

The new Flip Out venue, set to open on July 2nd, will be staffed by up to 25 employees at a time. More than 180 people applied for the manager job, and there were over 500 applicants for the other roles.

Flip Out’s takeover of the former BHS base will see the 28,000 sq ft unit split over a 3,600 sq ft ground floor and a 24,700 sq ft basement that will include trampolining arena, a café, a kids’ trampolining area, plus ninja obstacle course.

Keith Wortley, owner of Flip Out Doncaster, said: “Location is key in establishing a successful franchise and Frenchgate’s town centre location, combined with access to parking and public transport, makes it family-friendly and ideal for Flip Out.

“More than just a trampoline park, our Doncaster site includes NinjaTAG, battle beams, foam pits, free-running areas, bouldering and traverse climbing walls, plus soft play.”
