Taste of the Big Apple comes to Leeds as launch date is revealed for New York-inspired rooftop bar and grill

Restaurant group D&D London has announced its latest Leeds restaurant – East 59th – will open its doors to the public on Friday, July 14th.

The Manhattan-style rooftop bar and grill will take up a 5,400sq ft rooftop space within the £165m Victoria Gate development.

The news comes just days after the launch of the restaurant group’s third Leeds venue Issho – a rooftop Japanese restaurant and bar located just next door.

East 59th, which is named after the street in New York where you can find D&D’s venue Guastavino’s, includes an all-day grill, bar and terrace offering panoramic city views.

Taking inspiration from New York’s vibrant nightlife, East 59th will host regular DJ events and is set to be one the most sought after social hotspots in Leeds.

Paul Rogers, Senior General Manager, said: “Leeds’ nightlife scene is incredibly diverse and we’re excited to add something different to the offering with a New York-inspired rooftop bar and grill.

“East 59th comes hot on the heels of the launch for our stunning Japanese bar and restaurant Issho, and the two distinct venues are unique in their own way, offering something for everyone.”

East 59th’s American-inspired menu offers a modern take on US classics, such as a 10oz beef burger, peppered pastrami bagel and Waldorf salad, as well as baby back ribs, steak and lobster from the grill.

Executive Chef Lee Murdoch, of Crafthouse and Angelica, has created the menu. He said: “It’s been really fun experimenting with New York classics and giving them an East 59th twist.

“Guests at East 59th will get a true taste of the New York food scene and we’re sure our cocktails and desserts – including our special sundae – will prove particularly popular.”
