Thirsk business captures ‘Tour’ spirit with road trip that will showcase best of Yorkshire

Hot on the tail of last month’s Tour de Yorkshire, a more ‘revved up’ road trip will showcase our county to a national audience.

The team at Twisted Automotive today embarks on the inaugural Yorkshire 300 to celebrate the business’s new partnership with Welcome to Yorkshire, while raising money for children’s charity, Variety Yorkshire.

Defender enthusiasts, including national journalists and passionate Twisted customers, will descend on the county to participate in the inaugural road trip.

The team, who specialise in re-engineering the classic British vehicle, has confirmed the route for the road trip, which starts from their workshop and headquarters in Thirsk and stretches 300 miles and four days across North and West Yorkshire.

Joining them on the trip will be Twisted ambassador and endurance athlete Sean Conway, just weeks after breaking the record for the fastest crossing of Europe by bicycle.

Taking in the North Yorkshire Moors, the Yorkshire 300 departs Thirsk for Guisborough, before heading through Thimbleby, Masham, Lofthouse, Aysgarth, Muker, Harrogate and Garforth.

Twisted is a member of Welcome of Yorkshire’s Y 30 group of companies that champions the county’s interests and has a major presence as part of the Caravan at the recent Tour de Yorkshire.

Twisted Automotive managing director, Charles Fawcett, said: “We are proud to be Y 30 members and take our responsibilities as ambassadors for ‘Brand Yorkshire’ very seriously.

“It was fantastic to be a part of the Tour de Yorkshire and we will relish being a part of the Great Yorkshire Show later this summer. Both events celebrate all that’s great about our county and the Y300 is our own way of paying homage to Yorkshire.

“We look forward to sharing our love for our home county with the inaugural Y300 participants, while raising money for an excellent cause.”

Welcome to Yorkshire Chief Executive, Sir Gary Verity DL, said: “We’re delighted to be working in partnership with Twisted Automotive and the Y300 sounds really exciting. It will take in many of Yorkshire’s most spectacular locations and give a real taste of what our great county has to offer.

“The road trip is also raising money for a hugely worthwhile cause and we hope everyone involved has a thoroughly enjoyable experience.”

Twisted Automotive is recognised as the global authority on the Land Rover Defender and specialises in redefining the vehicles to the exacting specifications of customers from around the world.

The business also recently launched its Classic Series of new vehicles, which distil Twisted’s most popular specifications into drive-away vehicles.

Every vehicle that leaves the Twisted workshop carries a plaque featuring the signature of the engineer that built it and the words ‘Yorkshire, England’.

Variety Yorkshire is a charity that provides mobility aid to local children.
